Pokhara to Tikhe Dunga

Drive Distance: 1 hour 30 minutes to Nayapul

From Pokhara, you can find a ride to a place called Nayapul. You will ride through a large and beautiful village of Lumle. After arriving in Nayapul, the trek officially begins. Be ready to follow the beautiful staircases along the bank of Modi khola.

After around 20 minutes, you will begin to walk through the stone-paved path to Birethanti, 1000 meters. There is a big town in Birethanti where Gurung, Magar, and Thakali people are the major inhabitants. There are many shops and teahouses in Birethanti where you can stop for lunch.

From there, you will be following the winding trails through forest of bamboos. You’ll also see many waterfalls and some natural pools. There are some trekkers who don’t hesitate to take a dip in the pools.

Continuing the beautiful trail with sounds of water running on the Bhurungdi Khola, you will take a steady climb to Hille, 1495 meters. A short climb from Hille, and there Tikhedunga is.

Tikhe Dhunga to Ghorepani

The journey begins as you cross the river in Tikhedunga over a suspension bridge. After crossing the river, the trail dips and again crosses the Bhurungdi River. Then begins a steep ascend through the stone staircases to Ulleri village, 2070 meters. The village is a beautiful village of Magar people.

Now, the trail ascends alongside beautiful pastures and cultivated lands. Ascend a little longer and you’ll walk into dense jungles of oaks and rhododendrons. You’ll also see cascading waterfalls on the way. You’ll reach Banthanti, 2250 meters. You will walk across amazing streams and a scenic ridge on your way to Nangethanti 2460 meters.

You can have lunch there and begin trekking towards Ghorepani. It roughly takes an hour to reach Ghorepani 2840 meters from there.

Ghorepani to Poon Hill to Tadapani

Poon Hill, if you don’t know is an incredible panoramic view of some incredible Himalayas in Annapurna range. From there, you will see a breathtaking panorama of Dhaulagiri I (8167 meters), Tukuche (6920 meters), Nilgiri (6940 meters), Annapurna I (8091 meters), Hiuchhuli (6441 meters), Tarke Kang (7193 meters), Annapurna South,Gangapurna (7454 meters), Lamjung Himal (6986 meters), and Machhapuchhre Himal (6997 meters).

You will hike to Poon Hill early in the morning from Ghorepani village. Since this trek goes via Poon Hill, some call it the Poonhill ABC trek. The sunrise view from Poon Hill is the best one. You wouldn’t want to miss it. From Poonhill, you will get back to Ghorepani. From Ghorepani, you will see the stone steps. Follow them as you ascend towards Deurali.

From Deurali village, the trail goes down into a green forest. On the way, you’ll see some amazing waterfalls and streams. You will then reach Banthati. Follow the mesmerizing trails and you will finally reach Tadapani.

Tadapani to Chhomrung

Trek Distance: 9.8 kilometers

Highest Altitude: 2170 meters

From Tadapani, you will walk down across the shades of Rhododendron trees. After descending the trail for nearly an hour, you will reach a stream called Kimrong Khola. Cross the suspension bridge over the Kimrong Khola. No more descents now.

The trail ascends slowly to a small and beautiful Gurung village called Chule village. From the village, you’ll see beautiful Himalayan views. Follow the trail, slowly climb the ascend through the forest. Also, there is a huge landslide ridge. Finally, you will reach the densely populated Chhomrong village, 2170 meters.

Chhomrong is an incredibly amazing place. As you look above the town, you’ll see the glistening peaks of Annapurna South, Hiuchuli, Macchapuchre, and Gangapurna Himal gently kissing the sky. For your information, Chhomrong village is also a gateway to the Annapurna Sanctuary trek.

Chhomrong to Dovan or Himalaya Hotel via Bamboo

Aren’t the routes of Annapurna Base Camp trek sounding amazing? Well, as you get closer, it becomes even more exciting. The journey from Chhomrong to Dovan is amazing!

You will leave Chhomrong by doing the descending staircases. There is a suspension bridge over Chhomrong Khola. After crossing, the trail ascends towards a small and beautiful village called Sinuwa, 2340 meters. The trail passes through deep and dense Bamboo, Rhododendron, and Oak trees.

Ascending gradually, you will reach Kuldi, 2470 meters. No more ascends for the day. From Khuldi, you will be doing the long and slippery descent through the stone staircase into the Bamboo village. Passing through the Modi Khole forest of bamboo and rhododendron trees, you will reach Dovan.

Walking uphill through the serene forest of Bamboo and Rhododendron to the Himalayan Hotel. From there, you will walk further towards the Hinko Cave. Hinko Cave is where there used to be porter’s house years ago.

From the Hinko cave, the trail continues towards Deurali. There are some portions of the trail that are prone to avalanche. Be careful while you walk. The trail will direct you towards the base camp of Macchapuchre Himal.

The Machhapuchhare Base Camp, 3700 meters, is a beautiful place from where you can see some astonishing views of Mt. Hiuchhuli, Annapurna ranges, and Mt. Machhapuchhare. Spend some time at the base camp. If you want to stay there overnight, you can stay at the lodges there.

If you want to travel further to Annapurna Base Camp, follow the trekking trail. After walking for approximately an hour, you will reach the base camp of Annapurna. From Bamboo, walk uphill towards Kuldihar. From there, you will be walking through a beautiful forest to Sinuwa village. From Sinuwa, the trail dips down to Chhomrong Khola where there is a suspension bridge. Cross the river and walk up through the beautiful 2500 stone steps to Chhomrong.

Chhomrung to Ghandruk
