Day 01: Flight from Kathmandu to Lukla and Trek to Phakding

Max. Altitude: Lukla (2,843m); Phakding (2660m)

Trek Duration: 3 Hours

Trek Distance: 8 km

Flight from Kathmandu to Lukla is the adventurous part of your trek. Lukla has the tiny 527 meters of a runaway at an altitude of 2843m. Yet, this 40-minute ride will take you to a delightful tour within snow-clad mountains. Upon reaching Lukla, your trekking starts officially. Lukla is a fabulous market of the Everest Region with quaint villages, monasteries, chortens, and numerous hotels.

Crossing the busy streets of Lukla, you will ascend towards Phakding. Along the way, the radiant vegetation with colorful rhododendrons surrounds you. The part of the trek is short and easy along with beautiful scenery. You will reach Phakding within 3 hours. The rest of the day is yours for further exploration.

Day 02: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar

Max. Altitude: 3,440m, Namche Bazaar

Leaving Phakding, you will head to Namche Bazaar. This is going to be a long, tough day as the trails are full of gradual ascend. On this exciting day, you also enter Sagarmatha National Park. The atmosphere starts getting more beautiful and the trails more rugged.

Walking along Dudh Koshi, you encounter forests of rhododendron, blue pine, and fir. You will also view the pleasing scenes of apical peaks like Kusum Kanguru and Thamserku.

The path is difficult with steep climbs. You will also cross the narrow lanes of the Dudh Koshi and Bhote Koshi River.

Finally, crossing the suspension bridge full of colorful flags, you reach Namche Bazaar. It is such a beautiful village covered with glazing mountains and gives glamorous views. You can explore the charming monasteries, vibrant markets where you can buy essential trekking gears and souvenirs.

Day 03: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Syangboche

You will have an amazing morning at Namche Bazaar. The sight of golden mountains during sunrise will re-energize you for the rest of your journey. After your early breakfast, you will hike upwards following the narrow lanes. On the way, you can also spot the astounding Mt. Everest. The first sight of the majestic Everest will give eternal inspiration and radiating energy.

Today, the journey will again be extremely tiring and long with steep ascents. Khumbu region will welcome you with artistic prayer wheels and many ethnic monasteries. You get closer not with the life of locals buts also of monks and nun. You will also get the magnificent panorama of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam.

You also go through heavenly landscapes of yaks and blue sheep grazing in the meadow.

Once you get on your destination, you have multiple options for accommodation. It is recommendable to choose to stay at the Everest View Hotel. This hotel holds a special record on the Guinness Book as “hotel at the highest altitude in the world”. It may be expensive but it will make your stay more memorable.

Day 04: Helicopter Flight to Everest Base Camp and Fly Back to Lukla

Here comes the ultimate and exciting day of your trek. Right after your breakfast, you will start your helicopter tour towards the Everest Region. You’ll be riding above the deep rhododendron forests within the snowy fog and clouds.

You can witness the exciting and attractive views of Khumbu Valley. Then, the ride will take you over Everest Base Camp, Khumbu Glacier, and Kala Patthar. Day 05: Flight back to Kathmandu from Lukla

Today is the final day of your trip. You will witness the awesome sun rising through the majestic mount range for the last time. After your breakfast, you will take an early flight back to the city. Once again, you get to enjoy the audacious surrounded by beautiful aerial views.

When you get back to Kathmandu, our representatives will transfer you to your respective hotel. You can spend the rest of the day celebrating the accomplishment of your journey. Kathmandu, being the famous tourist hub, has options for everything you wish for.

Food and Accommodation

There are countless teahouses and lodges along the route. Thus, there is not a problem of staying at a fixed spot. You can walk as much as you can. Whenever you want to stop, you will find a teahouse around.

The teahouses have single and double rooms with shared toilets and shower rooms. Regarding the charge, it might vary from place to place. The rates are minimal if you eat meals in the same lodge you stay in. However, the charges of hot-showers, hot drinking water, wi-fi, and charging your devices will be extra.

Regarding food, Everest Base Camp is the trek that offers you multiple cuisines. Besides regular dal-bhat, the food menu has burgers. Pizzas, parathas, macaroni, steaks, chowmein, choupsey, and desserts. However, it is suggestible to stay vegetarian after Namche. You can enjoy these delicacies while returning.

While for drinking water, as tap water is available on the route, you can carry your own filter or purifying tablets. Mineral water bottles and hot water will cost you extra charges. And regarding alcohol, it is available on the entire route. But, you are strongly suggested to take while celebrating your way back.

Weather is indeed unpredictable in Everest Region at such elevated altitudes. Moreover, the steep lanes and continuous ascend add more challenge to your journey. And on this trip, you will be taking a helicopter ride. Thus, choosing preferable weather is a must.

The prime trekking season for EBC is during the season of spring (April-May) and Autumn (October-November). The skies are clear and the views are fantastic. And there are rare chances of flight cancellation.

In spring, nature blooms in its true color. The surroundings are gorgeous with wild and colorful vegetation. It is the best time to explore the biodiversity inside Sagarmatha National Park. Also, the weather is stable with good visibility. The temperature is moderate except for few cold nights.

While Autumn is an ideal time for EBC trek with the best panoramic views of mount ranges. The temperature is cooler yet comforting. You can enjoy the crisp in the weather. The weather conditions of the trails are perfect. However, the trails are the busiest of all.

But if you want to avoid crowds, you can opt for months like late March, early June, and December. However, the availability of flight might depend on the weather.

Difficulties/Physical fitness

Everest Base Camp Trek is an exhaustive trek. You will realize that within the 3 days of the trek. Although you won’t be walking for more days, being physically fit is crucial at such altitudes. The ultimate altitude you would be standing is 5360m for EBC and 5555m for Kala Patthar. And they cannot be taken lightly.

It is advisable to start regular workout including heavy cardio and strengthening 3-months before your trek. Go for Regular hike practices, jogging, and climbing stairs too.

Be conscious of your health condition and always prepare for the worst. Keep yourself hydrated and don’t stress much. If you get any signs of AMS, descend down immediately and take proper actions. Consulting medical help before trekking is a significant part too.
