Starting From Syarubesi

About Syarubesi

Syabrubesi is a part of Langtang National Park and is the gateway for one of the popular trekking destinations i.e. Langtang Valley Trek. It is about 80 km away from Capital City Kathmandu.

This a beautiful Village Situated at an altitude of 1450 m. You begin this trek by driving from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi which is about 7 to 8 hours drive. You have various options for the mode of transportation. Some of them are given below:

Mode of Transportation

You can travel via local buses, express buses, public jeep, or privately. The choice is yours, each transportation gives you different experiences.

Traveling Via a Local Bus

If you love to experience what traveling in local buses feels like then this will be a great opportunity to try one. You can catch the buses from Machhapokhari in Kathmandu.

Every morning from 7 to 9 am a bus leaves towards Syabrubesi. These buses are the cheapest medium of transportation so if you arrive late you might not even have enough space to stand up.

You can also see people sitting on top of the buses. So, if you like to get a great view around while getting hit by air on your face then you can join them. It can be a bit harsh of a journey and a potential threat security-wise. So be careful while traveling this way.

These buses make a stop at each and every point in the way which can take a lot of time but the beautiful sight of hills and landscapes will make up for it. Also, sometimes the goats and chickens can give you company on this trip while being transported.

Traveling Via Express Bus

The express bus is quicker than the local bus, as they don’t make many stops during your travel. So you can reach Syabrubesi 1 to 2 hours early.

Also, you won’t be allowed to sit on the roof as they keep all your belongings there.

Traveling Via Jeep

You can also use Jeep as your mode of transportation. The jeep used in this travel is Tata Sumo. It leaves around 7:30 am every day from Machhapokhari.

This jeep carries a limited number of passengers, about 8 to 10 people. So you don’t have to worry about the vehicle being packed. But you have to go early and book yourself a seat.

Jeeps are a bit faster compared to buses, so there are chances of reaching your destination earlier than expected time.

Traveling Via Private Vehicle

If you like to travel in peace without much travel then you can hire jeep or car till Syabrubesi. But it can be a bit expensive compared to other Vehicles.

Traveling privately gives you many benefits as you can make stops anywhere you want too. You can travel slowly and still reach in time.

Trekking Routes – Syabrubesi to Langtang

After arriving at Syabrubesi, your trekking journey begins towards the Langtang Valley. You can know more about the routes in Detail below:

Syabrubesi To Lama Hotel

The distance between Syarubesi to Lama Hotel is around 11 km. You will be walking for about 6 to 7 hours this day.

You begin your trek by crossing the Bhote Koshi River and entering a dense forest of Oak and Rhododendron. Then following the paths you make an ascend till you reach Bamboo.

From there, you make a descend and cross Langtang Khola via a small wooden bridge. After that, you continue walking these trails and take a steep climb until you arrive at Lama Hotel.

Lama Hotel is situated at an altitude of 2480 m above sea level. The striking view of the Snowy mountain peaks looks mesmerizing from up here.

You stay the night in one of the lodges.

Lama Hotel to Langtang Valley

The distance between the Lama Hotel and Langtang Valley is around 15 km. It is about 5 to 6 hours of walking on this day.

You will wake up early today and head towards Ghora Tabela. You start by taking an ascend in these routes. Then, you walk through forests of pines, birches, etc.

Reaching Ghoda Tabla you can have your lunch over here. Then you make a steep climb past an old village and keep ascending till you arrive at Langtang Valley.

Langtang Valley is situated at an altitude of 3540 m above sea level. It is a beautiful valley surrounded by unique landscapes and Mountain peaks.

You will stay there for the night.

Langtang Valley to Kyanjin Gompa

The distance between Langtang Valley and Kyanjin Gompa is around 7 km. You will be walking for about 3 to 4 hours this day.

Today you begin your trek by crossing a small stream through a wooden bridge. Then as you walk further ahead you enter a lush green forest filled with unique vegetation of flora and fauna.

From there you make a gentle uphill climb until you arrive at Kyanjin Gompa which is situated at an altitude of 3817 m above sea level.

Kyanjin Gompa is a beautiful village filled with Tamang culture and Tradition. From here, you get to witness the beauty of the Langtang region. Usually, acclimatization day is held here.

This place offers a 3 to 4 hours hike to Tsergo Ri which is the highest point of this trek. You can also visit the Cheese factory which is one of the famous attractions of this place.

You stay in one of the lodges for the night.

Kyanjin Gompa to Rimiche

After spending a day in Kyanjin Gompa you will now head towards Rimiche. The distance between Kyanjin Gompa and Rimiche is around 9 km. You will be walking for about 4 to 5 hours this day.

Today you will be walking many up and downhill paths and crossing rivers and forests till you reach Rimiche which is situated at an altitude of 2450 m above sea level.

You will stay here for the night.

Return back

From Rimiche you head towards Syabrubesi which is about 3 to 4 hours walk. And stay there for the night. Then from there, you catch your transportation back to Kathmandu.

About Sundarijal

Sundarijal is a part of the Gokarneshwor Municipality in the Kathmandu district. This is another start point you can use to enter the Langtang region via Shivapuri National Park. This village is located 15 km away from the capital city.

Sundarijal is situated at an altitude of 1463 m above sea level. You start your journey by driving from Kathmandu to Sundarijal which is about 45 minutes to 1-hour drive.

Mode of Transportation

To travel till Sundarijal you can use either a local bus or private vehicle. It is a short distance drive from Kathmandu.

Traveling Via Local Bus

You can catch Local buses that will take you Sundarijal from Old Bus Park that lies near Ratnapark. The bus departs every 15 to 25 minutes, so it is not a problem if you miss one.

Using this mode of transportation it can take about 1 hour as it will make stops at different points along the way. Local Buses are very cheap compared to other modes of transportation.

While traveling you can see that the bus gets gradually packed halfway to its destination. You are not allowed to sit on the rooftop during this trip.

If you are staying near Jorpati or Bouddha then you can catch the bus along these routes. Sundarijal is quite near to this place.

Traveling Via Private Vehicle

Traveling in a private vehicle will be easier and more comfortable. Also, it takes about half-hour via car or taxi to reach Sundarijal.

If you like to travel privately you can hire or book in advance. It costs low compared to booking them directly.

On your way, you will travel pass Pashupatinath and Bouddhanath Stupa which are two UNESCO Heritage Sites.

Trekking Routes – Sundarijal to Langtang

After an hour’s drive, you reach Sundarijal which is the starting point of your trek. You will be traveling via Gosaikunda to reach Langtang.

Sundarijal to Chisopani

You begin your journey by heading towards Chisopani from Sundarijal which is about 4 to 5 hours walk. The distance between Sundarijal to Chisopani is about 10.6 km.

You will climb uphill using staircases as you walk through forests viewing beautiful waterfalls. After walking for about an hour or so you enter Shivapuri National Park.

From there, you make the steep climb and travel deep in the forests until you reach Chisopani.

Chisopani is situated at an altitude of 2134 m. You get to view beautiful mountains such as Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Dorje Lakpa, etc from here.

You stay here for the night.

Chisopani to Gul Bhanjayang

You wake up early to view the sunrise and then head towards Gul Bhanjayang which is about 5 to 6 hours walk.

As you walk ahead in the trails you reach Pati Bhanjyang from where you climb uphill till you reach Chipling.

Then a little further from there you reach Thodang Betini after that you make a descent through dense lush green forests until you arrive at Gul Bhanjyang.

Gul Bhanjyang is situated at an altitude of 2285 m. You will be staying here for the night.

Gul Bhanjayang to Tharepati

Today you head towards Tharepati which is about 5 to 6 hours walk from Gul Bhanjayang. As you begin your walk, after a few hours you reach Khutumsang. The view of snowy peaks looks mesmerizing from here.

Then you climb uphill through the colorful forest viewing the different species of flora and fauna until you reach Tharepati.

Tharepati is situated at an altitude of 3640 m. You will be staying here for the night.

Tharepati to Gopte

You will be heading towards Gopte which is about 5 to 6 hours walk from Tharepati. The trails are not very easy today.

You will be making many up and downhill climbs until you reach Gopte. It is going to be a bit difficult to walk this day. So be prepared and drink plenty of water along the way.

Gopte is situated at an altitude of 3440 m. You stay here for the night.

Gopte to Gosaikunda

Today you will be heading towards Gosaikunda which is one of the highlights of Sundarijal Trek routes. You will be walking for about 6 to 7 hours from Gopte to Gosaikunda.

You begin your walk by going through forests filled with pines, oaks, etc. Walking these trails you reach Phedi, from here you take an uphill walk crossing rough moraines.

You will also cross many small streams and take sharp climbs until you reach Gosaikunda. It is situated at an altitude of 4460 m.

Gosaikunda is a beautiful holy lake for people following the Hindu religion. It looks mesmerizing surrounded by beautiful hills all around. You stay here for the night.

Gosaikunda to Lauri Binayak

You will be heading towards Lauribinayak from Gosaikunda which is about 4 hours walk. You begin by making a slight descent in the trails and walk past a beautiful temple of Shakyamuni.

From there, as you walk further in these trails you reach Lauribinayak. Today you will have seen the beautiful Saraswati Kunda and Bhairav Kunda along the trails.

Lauribinayak is situated at an altitude of 3920 m. You stay here for the night.

Lauribinayak to Shin Gompa

You will be heading towards Shin Gompa which is about 5 hours walk from Lauribinayak. Today you will be passing through beautiful forests where you can see red pandas.

Along the way, you get to view the beautiful mountain Langtang Lirung. Viewing the beauty of nature you arrive at Shin Gompa which is situated at an altitude of 3330 m. This place offers a local cheese factory which is quite famous among the locals.

You stay the night in one of the lodges.

Shin Gompa to Thulo Syabru

You will be heading towards Thulo Syabru from Shin Gompa which is about 5 to 6 hours walk.

Today you will walk the forest trails filled with flowers of Rhododendron, Oak trees. Viewing beautiful sceneries of mountains such as Langtang Himal, Ganesh Himal, etc.

Thulo Syabru is situated at an altitude of 2000 m. You will stay here for the night.

Thulo Syabru to Lama Hotel

You will be heading to Lama hotel which is about 5 hours walk from Thulo Syabru. As you will be walking many up and downhill trails to reach your destination, you will walk past many Tamang villages today.

Lama Hotel is Situated at an altitude of 2480. You will be staying here for the night.

Lama Hotel to Kyanjin Gompa

You will be heading towards Kyanjin Gompa which is about 5 to 6 hours walk from Lama Hotel.

You will take a steep climb through lush green forests filled with beautiful vegetation. The roads might be a bit rough so walk carefully.

Kyanjin Gompa is situated at an altitude of 3817 m. You can explore the valley or hike up to Tsergo Ri.

You will stay here for the night.

Kyanjin Gompa to Langtang Valley

The walking distance between Kyanjin Gompa and Langtang Valley is about 5 to 6 hours.

Today you will be heading towards the beautiful valley where the majority of people living there belong to the Tamang Community. This place is influenced by Tibetan Culture and Tradition.

Langtang Valley is situated at an altitude of 3540 m. You will stay here for the night so you can explore the beautiful valley.

Return Back

After a wonderful night in the Beautiful Langtang Valley, you retrace your steps back to Lama hotel where you will be staying for the night.

Then you travel to Syabrubesi which is 5 hours walk and rest there for the day. The next day you catch your transportation from there and return back to Kathmandu.
