We shall help you with transferring your bags to the hotel in the Thamel area of Kathmandu.

Upon arrival at the hotel, make sure to freshen up, get some rest and head out to ease your muscles. In the evening, you get to meet the trekking guide or representative from the company for a quick orientation. This can be useful information regarding the upcoming adventure, safety procedures and what to expect on the trail. It’s the right time to clear any doubts as well as review your equipment checklist in order to ensure that you are ready for the journey ahead.

By the end of the day, you can simply relax in the lively atmosphere of Kathmandu hotel, knowing that your ABC trek adventure is about to begin.

Day 2: Drive or Fly to Pokhara

Pokhara Altitude: 820 meters / 2,690 feet

Either drive or take a flight to Pokhara in the morning. A flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara takes around 25 to 30 minutes. Flying back is more convenient and offers great views of the Langtang and Annapurna ranges if the weather is clear.

If you like driving, it will take around 7 to 8 hours on the scenic drive through Prithvi highway. The highway winds through a green hilly landscape, passing through riversides and charming villages, offering a glimpse of amazing countryside. You may also take the bus if you are not ready to splurge.

Upon arrival in Pokhara, your trekking agency will pick you up from the airport or the bus station and transfer you to your hotel, which is usually in the Lakeside district. You can then indulge in a stroll by the lake or window shop in the surrounding shops and cafes.

During the evening, go for a serene boat ride on Phewa Lake and enjoy the sunset glazing the mountains. Have a good dinner at any of the numerous restaurants available in Lakeside and have a good night's sleep in preparation for tomorrow's trekking outset.

Day 3: Drive to Nayapul and Trek to Ghandruk

Nayapul altitude: 1,070 meters / 3,510 feet
Ghandruk altitude: 1,940m / 6,365 feet

Drive to Nayapul after having your breakfast in Pokhara. This usually takes one and a half to two hours by private jeep or local bus. The drive along the Prithvi and Baglung highways presents beautiful views of green hills, terraced farms and small rural villages.

Start your trek to Ghandruk from Nayapul. The trail is quite easy at the beginning and passes through Birethanti and Syauli Bazaar, which then gradually goes uphill. The final stretch up to Ghandruk may feel a bit steep. But again, the effort is quite worth it. It normally takes about four to five hours of walking along the Modi Khola river.

Along the way, you'll take in sights of rhododendron forests, terraced fields and first clear sights of Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre. By late afternoon, you reach Ghandruk, which is a beautiful Gurung village that is known for stone houses and warm hospitality.

Your trekking company will organize your accommodation at a teahouse or lodge. After you have checked in, you are free to walk up and down the village and visit the Gurung Museum to learn more about the culture of the place. Later in the evening, watch the sunset from the hilltops, have a Nepali meal and rest well, as tomorrow will be another full day.

Day 4: Trek to Chhomrong

Ghandruk altitude: 1,940 meters / 6,365 feet
Chhomrong altitude: 2,170 meters / 7,120 feet

Start your trek from a beautiful Gurung village named Ghandruk to move to Chhomrong. It is generally considered as a gateway to the Annapurna region. The trek offers both uphill and downhill routes with beautiful scenery throughout the day.

You start with a gentle descent from Ghandruk along open trails and lush green landscapes. The path then follows a ridge before leading down into a quiet valley surrounded by forests and farmland areas. You will then cross a suspension bridge over the Kimrong River around midday. From here, the trail climbs steeply for about two hours through dense forest areas of rhododendron and oak until it reaches a ridge.

You will then stay overnight in a teahouse offering both comfort and relaxation, all together with a hot meal while viewing the mountain. It will take about five to six hours on the trek and the distance covered is approximately 8 to 10 kilometers. Chhomrong is also a good resting point to acclimatize, as it has Wi-Fi, bakeries and an ACAP permit checkpoint.

Day 5: Trek to the Himalaya Hotel

Himalaya Altitude: 2,920 meters / 9,580 feet

After having breakfast in Chhomrong, you’ll begin to trek towards Hotel Himalaya. It is a small settlement along the Modi Khola valley. The trail first descends steeply down stone steps to the river, which then climbs through dense green forests of bamboo and rhododendron. You’ll pass through Sinuwa and Bamboo before reaching the Himalaya hotel.

The walk takes around 6 to 7 hours with several uphill and downhill sections that keep the day interesting. Along the way, you’ll walk through shaded forest trails, cross small wooden bridges and hear the constant sound of the river below.

Himalaya is a peaceful stop with only a few teahouses, often called Himalaya Hotel, surrounded by tall cliffs and waterfalls. It’s the last forested area before the landscape begins to open up toward the higher alpine zone.

Once you arrive, settle into your lodge, enjoy a warm meal and take in the quiet beauty of the place. This is a perfect place to prepare for the next day's trek to Deurali. Rest well so that you'll start to feel closer to the Annapurna region.

Day 6: Trek to Annapurna Base Camp

Annapurna Base Camp Altitude: 4,130 meters / 13,550 feet

After having breakfast at Himalaya, you will begin the most exciting day of your trek. The trail rises steadily toward Deurali. You will move from forested paths to open alpine landscape, affording wider views of the mountains and Modi Khola below.

By late morning, you will reach the Machhapuchhre Base Camp. This is a wonderful place to rest and have lunch while enjoying your first close view of Machhapuchhre and the peaks nearby. You won't be staying here overnight, but it makes for a memorable photo stop.

By afternoon, you reach on a gentle slope, traverse across a wide valley towards the Annapurna Base Camp. Once you reach there, you will be rewarded with the most spectacular 360° view of the Annapurna range, including the Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhre.

You will be overnight at a teahouse at ABC, having a warm meal in time to watch the sunset light up above the mountains in golden colors. Take this perfect moment to relax and soak in the beauty. Today is a long climb, so stay hydrated, pace yourself and follow your guide's instructions to avoid altitude sickness.

Day 7: Explore Base Camp, Helicopter Flight to Pokhara

Altitude of Annapurna Base Camp: 4,130 meters / 13,550 feet
Pokhara Altitude: 820 meters / 2,690 feet

After breakfast, get ready for your helicopter flight back to Pokhara. The crew will give a short safety briefing before boarding. The 15-20 minute flight offers great views of valleys, terraced fields, rivers and villages like Ghandruk and Landruk, with a fresh perspective of the trail that you have completed.

Start your day with a warm breakfast, then go for a peaceful walk along the lake shores, or rent a small rowboat to visit the island in the middle of the lake with the Tal Barahi Temple. It is easy to relax here in these peaceful surroundings with fresh mountain air after many days of trekking.

Besides that, you can sightsee in the area easily. There is the International Mountain Museum to learn more about the Himalayas and local culture. You can visit Devi’s Falls and Gupteshwor Cave, which are close by. The cave lets you see the waterfall flowing beautifully underground. Another option is the World Peace Pagoda for amazing views of Pokhara, Phewa Lake and the mountains.

In the evening, enjoy a special Nepali dinner at the Lakeside restaurant. Taste local dishes or international food, listen to live music and share all of your trekking stories with your guide and companions. This is an ideal way to simply relax, celebrate and reflect on your unforgettable Annapurna adventure.

Day 9: Drive/Fly Back to Kathmandu

On this day, take your time for breakfast by Phewa Lake and catch the morning views in complete serenity. After checking out from the hotel, you will be driven either to the airport or the bus park for the onward journey.

You have the option to fly, which would consume about 25 to 30 minutes with a short, scenic view of the mountains and valleys, or take a tourist bus for a more economical alternative. The bus ride via the Prithvi Highway takes roughly 7 to 8 hours by going through green hills, rivers and villages. This may also be done in a private vehicle, with a travel time of about 6 to 7 hours, with the ability to make various stops and photo opportunities.

You can also take the tourist bus, which is a cheaper option. The bus route follows the Prithvi Highway and passes through green hills, rivers and small villages, taking about 7 to 8 hours to reach. If you choose a private vehicle, it can take about 6 to 7 hours, during whereby you could stop to take photos or for a quick break whenever you want.

Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be greeted by one of our representatives who will then escort you to your hotel. Helicopter Return Experience

The helicopter return from Annapurna Base Camp is as exciting as well as a truly unforgettable ending to your trek. After days of walking through forest areas, charming villages and high mountain regions, the helicopter gives you a chance to simply relax while enjoying the Himalayas from above. It can turn the final part of your journey into an adventure itself.

After sunrise at ABC, you walk to the helipad, a flat open area made for landing. You will soon see the helicopter blades start to spin its blades. As the helicopter soars upward, excitement builds within you. The amazing views of the Himalayas look even more breathtaking from the sky above. It normally takes 20 to 25 minutes of flying with breathtaking views, not possible by trail alone.

Flying alongside the Annapurna range, you get to see close-up peaks like Annapurna I, Machhapuchhre and Hiunchuli. You can also enjoy an aerial view of glaciers, steep valleys, farmlands and charming villages of local people like Gurung and Magar. The scale and beauty of the landscape become clear in a way that walking cannot show.

While descending towards Pokhara, a striking contrast of rugged mountains meeting calm lakes unfolds before your eyes. The helicopter return is quick, safe and comfortable. It creates a memorable end to your Himalayan adventure.

Permits & Documentation

For the trek to Annapurna Base Camp, you'll need an Annapurna Conservation Area Permit. This permit allows an entrance for safe trekking within the protected Annapurna region. All trekkers need it because it supports conservation and helps local communities.

You can get your ACAP permit in Kathmandu or Pokhara before commencing your trek. The process is simple and most travel agencies will handle it for you. Carry your valid passport and a few passport-size photos for the application process. The fees are set but they may vary a little depending on your nationality.

Even if you plan to return by helicopter, you still need the ACAP permit since you will trek to the base camp first. Permits are checked at various checkpoints on the trail; don't forget to carry them with you at all times.

Along with the ACAP, it is wise to carry personal identification, travel insurance and a copy of your helicopter or trek booking. These documents do help in smooth coordination and safety concerns during your trek. You can have the right permits and documents can make your Annapurna Base Camp journey legally approved, safe and quite comfortable.

Best Seasons for the Trek

The best seasons for the Annapurna Base Camp trek with a helicopter return are during the times of spring and autumn seasons. During these months, the weather is clear, the skies are bright blue and the mountain views are mostly clear in their best form possible. You can enjoy stunning panoramas of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Machhapuchhre without having to worry about the rest.

During the spring season, the vibrant colors of rhododendrons and other flowers bloom along the trail, which adds vibrant color to the landscape. The daytime temperatures are quite mild, which makes the trail quite comfortable. During mornings and evenings, the weather situation is quite cool, especially at higher altitudes. Autumn brings stable weather with crisp air and less chance of rainfall. This season also offers long daylight hours, allowing more time to enjoy the trek and the helicopter flight back.

Helicopter flights are highly dependent on weather, offering clear skies that are very important for a safe and scenic journey. Spring and autumn provide the most reliable conditions for flying. Winter and monsoon seasons are less ideal. In winter, heavy snow can block the trail and cold temperatures can make trekking challenging. During the monsoon, heavy rain and clouds can reduce visibility and increase flight cancellations.

You can choose the right time of year to keep your trek as well as the helicopter return quite safe, enjoyable and filled with breathtaking scenery.

Trek Difficulty, Fitness & Altitude Tips

The Annapurna Base Camp trek with a return via helicopter is graded as a moderate adventure. It will suit anyone of average fitness or who can walk a few hours a day. Helicopter return makes your journey far easier because you avoid the long downhill trek. This saves your knees and legs from extra strain. You will still walk uphill through changing terrain, so a little preparation helps you enjoy the trek comfortably.

It's good to build some basic fitness before the start of the trek. Walking, jogging, or cycling a few times a week for a month or two is effective. Light leg and core exercises ease climbing and balancing on uneven paths. You can practice walking with a small backpack so that your body gets used to carrying some amount of weight. A little training goes a long way in making the journey smooth and more enjoyable.

Another important issue is the altitude. The base camp is located at an altitude of about 4,130 meters, so mild symptoms include shortness of breath, tiredness, or a light headache. Acclimatize safely by ascending slowly, drinking plenty of water and resting well at night. Overnighting at mid-level stops allows your body to acclimatize naturally.

All in all, this trek to Annapurna Base Camp with a return via helicopter is not too hard and can be done by most travelers who prepare a little in advance. With steady pacing, fitness and altitude awareness, you'll have a safe and unforgettable mountain experience.

Accommodation & Food

Accommodations and food on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek are comfortable and simple. You will be accommodated in teahouses and lodges throughout the villages of the trail, like Ghandruk, Chhomrong and Bamboo. They have basic rooms with beds and blankets. As you move higher at Machhapuchhre Base Camp and toward ABC, these accommodations are simpler but clean and cozy enough for a good night's sleep. Most offer shared or private rooms, depending on your preference or availability.

The food on the trek is diverse and plentiful. Teahouses generally serve local Nepali foods like dal bhat, noodles and soup that is served warm. You get to eat bread, eggs and pancakes in addition to other simple snacks. Continental options like pasta, omelets and fried rice are available in many lodges to cater to travelers' tastes. Hot drinks like tea, coffee and even hot chocolate options are also available.

The helicopter return makes it easier to manage food and accommodation, as you won't have to trudge down the same trail. There is no need to allow for as many nights on the trail, which reduces extra meals and overnight stays. You can then book your rooms in advance during peak seasons and definitely have a place to rest, especially at popular stops like ABC.

Overall, the ABC trek has basic accommodation and food, but it is adequate. They provide warmth, energy and comfort so you can enjoy the trek and the helicopter flight back without having to worry.

Safety, Altitude and Insurance Guidelines

Safety, altitude and insurance are very important for the Annapurna Base Camp trek with a helicopter return. Trekkers face changing weather, steep trails and high altitudes, so it is essential to plan carefully. Following safety guidelines ensures that your journey is enjoyable and without any risk.

This trek also heavily depends on altitude. Annapurna Base Camp is at an altitude of 4,130 meters and trekkers can easily develop mild altitude effects such as shortness of breath, headache, or fatigue. To decrease the risk, ascend gradually, stay hydrated and rest well at each stop. Pace yourself and watch for signs of tiredness or sickness. If anything feels wrong, inform your guide and take action to stay safe.

For all trekkers, it is highly recommended that you obtain traveler's insurance. A good insurance policy should cover all cases of medical emergencies, evacuation, helicopter rescue and delay in a trek. This is particularly important if you are taking a helicopter return because flights may be delayed by bad weather or unforeseen circumstances. Insurance gives one peace of mind on the trek and gets you assistance in case a sudden mishap happens.

Additionally, don't forget to apply basic safety practices on the trail. Wear sturdy trekking shoes, dress in layers to adjust to changes in weather and carry enough water and snacks to keep you going. Let your group know where you are going and stay within local guidelines and regulations. Prepared for altitude challenges, proper insurance and safety measures will enable a secure, comfortable and memorable trek to Annapurna Base Camp.

Local Culture & Community Experience

It is not only mountains and adventure on this journey to the Annapurna Base Camp Trek with helicopter return but also a beautiful way of connecting with local people and culture. Trekking through small villages, you'll meet welcoming locals from the Gurung and Magar communities. Their kindness and simple lifestyle will make you feel at home, even far from your own.

You will be able to visit traditional houses, taste the food and see how people of the Himalayas live. Lots of trekkers love joining the locals over a cup of tea or watching them go about working in their fields. It's an opportunity to learn about their daily life, customs and traditions that have remained same for generations.

The trek also supports local communities. Staying in teahouses, eating local meals and hiring local guides help families earn a living. It is one way of giving back, while still enjoying the experience.

You'll see those villages and the same terracing from a different perspective when you come back by helicopter. It's the people, it's the culture that provides this region with so much of its magic. You see a close-up and then an aerial view of the Himalayas, both its mountains and its people.

The Annapurna Base Camp is one of those few trails where responsible trekking is a matter of great concern. The mountains, the rivers and the forests are fragile. Even your small actions can safeguard or spoil them. Keep a small bag with you to collect garbage like wrappers, bottles and tissues. You can throw them only at appropriate collection points. Never throw garbage along the trails and villages.

Respect the local culture and people. Ask before taking photos, follow local customs and be kind to all people. You can also support them by buying food, buying their craftwork, or utilizing some of their services. This will help keep their traditions alive.

Use eco-friendly items when possible. Bring a reusable water bottle and biodegradable soap. Avoid damaging nature by walking on marked trails. Use just enough water and energy in lodges.

Trek in a manner so that it leaves the mountains clean and safe. It also provides more enjoyment in your journey and offers the facility to preserve the Himalayas for others in the future.
