Ready to begin your 17-day Annapurna Circuit trek with Tilicho Lake with one of Nepal’s most reliable trekking agencies? Well, it depends on you. This package is designed to take you through one of the most beautiful and adventurous trips in the Himalayas, combining the classic Annapurna Circuit Trek with a detour to Lake Tilicho, one of the world’s highest glacier lakes at an altitude of 4,919 meters.
This moderately challenging trek takes you through a dramatic landscape, from the subtropical forests and alpine meadows to Manang’s dramatic desert. The way you’ll experience the rich cultural tapestry in the Buddhist villages, ancient monasteries, and Hindu pilgrimage at places such as Mukkinath is certainly one of a kind.
Your trip ends with crossing the iconic Thorong La pass (5,416 m), the highest point on the route. This reward is the unforgettable views of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Tilicho Peak, and many other Himalayas, which are a dream even for many Nepalis.
No matter you seek a fantastic Himalaya Panorama, cultural recess, or true sense of accomplishment, this hike provides a lifelong experience in the heart of the Annapurna region of Nepal.
What makes Annapurna Circuit trek with Tilicho Lake unique?
The Annapurna Circuit Trek is unique in itself, adding the trip to Tilicho Lake makes it even more rewarding and diverse, and ultimately a must-do trek in Nepal. Here are some reasons why the trek is so unique:
- This is a real circuit: Unlike most of the Himalaya trek, this trek follows a loop. Due to this, you will never backtrack, retracing your steps; every day brings you to a new trail and new village, and even returning will feel like further progressing.
- Dual adventure with culture: At the start of the Annapurna Circuit trek, you will be surrounded by the Hindu culture, and slowly, as you ascend on your trek, Buddhist settlements and sacred pilgrimage sites will replace them. It feels totally like a cultural evolution.
- Trek within a trek: It’s a rare opportunity to witness the majesty of the great Annapurna I (8,091m) and the popular Tilicho Lake (4,919m ) at once in a single trek. Even if most of the trekkers skip the Tilicho section due to the trek’s difficulty, you will have a strong, encouraging team by your side to ensure you enjoy this detour.
- Gradual Immersion with less risk: In the Circuit trek of Annapurna, you won’t have to be exposed to the high altitude suddenly (like in the Everest Base Camp), instead it takes you higher, day by day, helping your body and brain to adapt naturally to the mountain.
- A deeper connection to local culture: One of the most appreciated parts by the trekkers who’ve completed the trek is the hospitality of the locals. Your engagement with the locals will be just like another tourist.
Why are we adding Tilicho Lake?
If you think that adding Tilicho Lake to the Annapurna Circuit trek is just like other extra spots, you are completely unaware of Tilicho’s beauty. The mesmerizing scene this lake creates by mirroring the sky-high snow-capped mountains is just epic, totally unmatched. This feeling can’t be described in words.
To achieve this, the main trail must be left to a more remote and less-traveled area, which gives you a sense of wild adventure and solitude that only a few treks could offer. This addon trek allows you to experience the raw, pristine side of the Annapurna region, where the landscape is very different and the air carries just the silence.

Detailed Day-by-Day Itinerary: Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake – 17 Days
Day 1 - Arrival at Kathmandu
Kathmandu altitude: 1400 m/ 4,593 ft
As your flight descends into the Tribhuvan International Airport of Nepal, you’ll catch your first glimpse of culture-rich Nepal’s capital city, Kathmandu. Welcome to Nepal!
Before you land at Tribhuvan International Airport, our representative will already be there to greet you and transfer you to your hotel. Have a check-in at one of the best hotels arranged for you. Take some time to relax and be fresh. If you wish, you can discover the streets of Thamel in the evening. Thamel is a bustling area in Kathmandu, whose vibe is energetic, and the atmosphere is soaking. Explore the local handicrafts and try some momos.
Day 2 - Trek Preparation Day in Kathmandu
Altitude: 1,400 m / 4,593 ft
Today is a reserved day for trek preparation and equipment finalization. Early in the morning, you will meet with your guide and support team. Discuss trek management, gear rentals, safety protocols, and anything that’s on your mind. Review our travel program, and if you want to add any details at the last minute, this is the time to consult.
After the discussion completes, you’ll still have enough time for a cultural trip around the City. Visiting the UNESCO World Heritage sites, like the Swayambhunath Stupa and Kathmandu Durbar Square, is our top suggestion. Hire a taxi or directly consult us to arrange a short guided tour around the valley.
Your overnight stay will be at the same hotel.
Day 3 - Drive from Kathmandu to Ngadi
Ngadi Altitude: 1,100 m / 3,609 ft
Drive Distance: 200 km
Drive Duration: 6–8 hours
Elevation loss: -300 m / -984 ft
The adventure for which you came to visit Nepal will truly begin on this day with a scenic drive to Ngadi. Ngadi is a small, beautiful city settled alongside the Marsyangdi River. Soon after you’ve had your breakfast, your team will head along the Prithvi Highway through the lush hills, river valleys, and small towns.
After 5-6 hours of riding, you’ll first reach the entry point of the Annapurna region, Besisahar, and then take a route to Ngadi, which is rugged and off-road. This will be your introduction to the rural Himalaya life because as you travel towards Ngadi, the scenes of cascading waterfalls, terraced fields, and traditional hilly settlements open up.
Day 4 - Ngadi to Chamje
Chamje Altitude: 1,430 m / 4,692 ft
Trek Distance: 11 km
Trek Duration: 4–5 hours
Elevation Gain: 330 m / 1,083 ft
This is the official start of your Annapurna Circuit trek, where you’ll be trekking along the Marsyangdi River. The trail won’t take time to immerse you in natural beauty, when you pass through lively villages and green forests.
As you continue your trek, you will pass through villages like Ghermu and Bahundanda, which are Tamang settlements. Explore their culture and move further to cross some thrilling suspension bridges over deep gorges. In a hotel nearby, you’ll have your lunch and continue walking. The trail gets steeper in the final hours, demanding a little more stamina, stay hydrated, take your time, and go on ahead to discover new terrains.
Finally, after that, you’ll reach Chamje, a small village across the river.
Day 5 - Trek from Chame to Bagarchap
Bagarchap Altitude: 2,160 m / 7,086 ft
Trek Distance: 12 km
Trek Duration: 4–5 hours
Elevation Gain: 730 m / 2,395 ft
After an early breakfast in Chamje, today's trek will take you deeper into the Manang district, as you follow the roaring Marshyangdi River through the valley. Your start will be a gradual climb through dense forests and the Rocky Mountains, crossing several dramatic suspension bridges that take you to a place popularly known as Tal. The Tal, at an altitude of 1,700 meters, is a valley developed by a glacial lake centuries ago. It’s a major checkpoint in the trail.
The waterfalls, stone-based trails, and Tibetan-style houses mark your official entrance into the Manang region, where Tibetan Buddhist culture becomes more prominent. On continuing your trek, you’ll reach Dharpani (1,960 m), another important village where permits are often checked. Here, you may notice the dipping temperature and change in vegetation as coniferous plants and pine forest start replacing the subtropical forest. A final session of hiking through the forest brings you to Bagarchhap (2,160m), which is a charming village surrounded by pine forest.
Day 6 - Trek from Bagarchap to Chame
Chame Altitude: 2,630 m / 8,629 ft
Trek Distance: 7 km
Trek Duration: 4–5 hours
Elevation Gain: 470 m / 1,542 ft
You’ll be passing settlements like Danaque and Timang along your way, where panoramic views of snow-covered peaks await your arrival. Moving further from Timang, a place named Koto, where the trail flattens out slightly, will join you to Chame, the administrative center in the Manang district.
Chame is a vibrant town situated under towering cliffs, known for its prayer wheels and a hot spring nearby. Here you will enjoy your first uninterrupted view of Lamjung Himal (6,983 m) and Annapurna II (7,937 m), marking an important visual milestone in the trip. The wind gets cooler and fresher, telling you that you are walking in the higher Himalayas.
Day 7 - Chame to Pisang
Pisang Altitude: 3,300 m / 10,827 ft
Trek Distance: 15 km
Trek Duration: 5–6 hours
Elevation Gain: 670 m / 2,198 ft
From Chame, your team now travels to Pisang. You may get surprised here because the trail gets narrow for some kilometers and then opens up into a wide valley with pine forests and apple orchards. This is Pisang, a village known for its fantastic mountain scenes and Tibetan-influenced architecture.
After leaving Chame, today's trek will take you deep into the eastern Himalayas, where the landscape is even more dramatic and bumpy. This route still follows the Marsangdi River through dense cedar forests, mani walls, and prayer wheels that reflect the growing influence of Tibetan Buddhism.
The trail narrows significantly as you hike through a steep and rocky section carved in a cliff. This is one of the most thrilling parts of the trip. After crossing a suspension bridge at 2,910 meters altitude, the landscape opens into a huge, wide, glacial valley surrounded by huge peaks. Here you will pass through apple gardens and barley fields, and notice a dry area characterized by the Manang region. By evening, you will reach Pisang (3,300 m), a picturesque village divided into the upper and lower Pisang, providing one of the most prestigious mountain scenes throughout the trip.
Day 8 - Trek from Pisang to Manang
Manang Altitude: 3,519 m / 11,545 ft
Trek Distance: 18 km
Trek Duration: 7–8 hours
Elevation Gain: 219 m / 718 ft
From Pisang, you, along with your team, will take an upper route through Gayaru and Nagawal. This route, though being physically demanding due to its steeper ascent, offers panoramic views of Annapurna II, III, IV, and Gangapurna, which makes the hard work worthwhile.
On moving forward through a drier, windswept terrain, the landscape shifts noticeably. You will encounter several stone houses and yak pastures along the way. This is an indication that you are close to Manang. Manang is a major acclimatization hub and one of the largest settlements in the region. The Buddhist influence becomes more prominent as you move towards it.
Within a few hours, you’ll be greeted by the beautiful scenes of Gangapurna Glacier, marking your arrival at Manang.
Day 9 - Acclimatization and Exploration in Manang
Manang Altitude: 3,519 m / 11,545 ft
Today is the day of allowing your body to rest and adapt to the high altitude before you ascend to the higher region. However, this can be taken as an opportunity to gain more from the trip. If you wish, you can try a hike to Gangapurna Lake or the Ice Lake (4,600 m) and enjoy the scenery.
Alternatively, you may also explore the culturally rich village of Manang by visiting the ancient monasteries or Bhojo Gompa. Attending the sessions at the Himalayan Rescue Association (HRA) Altitude Clinic can also be informative and useful.
But, if you are doing an additional hike, make sure not to push yourself too much and use half of the day to rest, as the next days are more demanding.
Day 10 - Trek from Manang to Siri Kharka
Siri Kharka Altitude: 4,060 m / 13,320 ft
Trek Distance: 10 km
Trek Duration: 4–5 hours
Elevation Gain: 541 m / 1,775 ft
Today is a significant twist in your Annapurna circuit with Tilicho Lake Trek as you leave the main path and turn west towards the serene Tilicho Lake area.
The path climbs gently through a dry alpine landscape marked with yak pastures and rugged terrain.
By the way, you will pass the ancient mani walls, old monasteries, and some seasonal tea houses. If you have time, take a break and feel the silence of the higher Himalayas.
When you ascend a little bit, the visual quickly becomes dramatic with snow-covered peaks approaching closer. Finally, upon reaching the Siri Khara (4,060 m), you will be welcomed by a quiet atmosphere and the mesmerizing vistas of the Annapurna and Gangapurna Range.
Day 11 - Trek from Siri Kharka to Tilicho Base Camp
Tilicho Base Camp Altitude: 4,150 m / 13,615 ft
Trek Distance: 8 km
Trek Duration: 5 hours
Elevation Gain: 90 m / 295 ft
Today's journey is shorter in distance, but requires all your physical preparation and Endurance. Siri Kharka to Tilicho Base Camp is one of the most dramatic and robust parts of the Annapurna Circuit, with the Tilicho Lake Trek. The paths are narrow, steep, and always prone to landslides, so make sure you follow your guide’s instructions properly.
As you climb higher in this uncertain terrain, the landscape becomes rockier. Here, you get to know the true challenge that the Himalayas can present. In the next 5 hours of walking, each step takes you closer to the Tilicho Base camp and ultimately providing an unforgettable view of the Tilicho peak. Finally, on reaching the Tilicho base camp, you’ll spend this night and prepare for the next day, where you’ll be meeting with the praised Tilicho Lake.
- Stop overnight at Tilicho Base Camp.
Day 12 - Visit Tilicho Lake, then back to Siri Kharka
Siri Kharka Altitude: 4,060 m / 13,320 ft
Trek Distance: 12 km
Trek Duration: 6–7 hours
Elevation Gain: 769 m / 2,522 ft ( while ascending)
Now is the time to achieve that for which this package was designed. On this day, you’ll have to wake up early and begin your hike to Tilicho Lake. The trail is challenging with some steep and rugged sections, especially in the morning. So walk carefully. As you ascend, you’ll slowly start seeing a glimpse of the Lake. The more you move towards it, the more you are amazed.
When you finally reach Tilicho Lake, the view is breathtaking (a turquoise blue lake set in between the snow-covered mountains). You‘ll find it as a peaceful, magical place that can leave a deep impression on anyone who visits. No one probably would want to return quickly after reaching such a magical place; however, we are short on time. After spending some time there, you’ll return to Sri Kharka.
Day 13 - Trek from Siri Kharka to Ledar via Yak Kharka
Ledar Altitude: 4,250 m / 13,944 ft
Trek Distance: 10 km
Trek Duration: 4–5 hours
Elevation Gain: 190 m / 623 ft
The trail set off from Tilicho is now again attached to the main trail at Yak Kharka on the 13th day. The route is mostly peaceful. You’ll walk through wide pastures, rocky slopes, and dry alpine landscapes that provide open views of the surrounding mountains.
When you get closer to Yak-Kharka, you will probably see a lot of grazing Yaks and understand why the name is Yak-Kharka. The area is windy, but the views are incredibly scenic. This is an ideal place to have a rest.
After resting for a while, continue a soft climb to Ledar, which is a small settlement located on a narrow ridge. Here you may spot the blue sheep, Himalayan griffons, or eagles soaring overhead. Ledar is usually a quiet place with fewer crowds and fewer teahouses. This makes it a perfect place to rest and gather energy for your biggest target- the Thorong La Pass.
Day 14 - Ledar to Thorong High Camp
Thorong High Camp Altitude: 4,925 m / 16,158 ft
Trek Distance: 7 km
Trek Duration: 4–5 hours
Elevation Gain: 675 m / 2,215 ft
This is a short trek but very important for your upcoming adventure. After breakfast, you will leave the Ledar and start hiking up a rocky and narrow trail. The wind will begin to feel thin, so it is important to walk slowly and continuously. This is not a day to hurry- take your time and help your body adjust to the increasing height.
Soon you will cross a suspension bridge over the Kone River, and then the trail climbs towards the Thorong Fedi (4540 m) - the base before the high camp. You can take a short break here to catch your breath and have a hot drink.
After that, the path is more complicated, but just 400 meters to reach Thorong High Camp. This section is more challenging due to rocky terrain and thin air, so listen to your guide and take a break when needed.
Since tomorrow is the biggest day of the trip - crossing Thorong La Pass, it is best to rest well. Eat a hot dinner, prepare your equipment, and quickly sleep to begin early in the morning.
Day 15 - Trek from Thorong High Camp to Muktinath Temple via Thorong La High Pass
Thorong La Pass Altitude: 5,416 m / 17,769 ft
Muktinath Altitude: 3,760 m / 12,336 ft
Trek Distance: 15 km
Trek Duration: 9 hours
Elevation Gain: 491 m / 1,611 ft (to the pass), then steep descent
Today is the biggest day of the whole trip, both in terms of performance and effort. You start very early at 4:00 AM while it is still dark, to ensure safe and stable progress. The goal is to reach Thorong La Pass (5,416 m) before the strong winds that arise later in the morning.
The climb is long, cold, and steep, especially in the early hours, so wear warm clothes and do it slowly. This oxygen is low, so small steps, stable breathing, and frequent breaks are important. As you approach, you will see the colorful flags fluttering. The feeling of accomplishment is really unforgettable when you reach the Thorong La Pass.
From here, the trail goes down the Kali Gandaki Valley quickly. This dramatic change in the landscape makes the descent a lot harder. Make sure your knee is not under too much strain.
The goal will be to reach the sacred temple, Muktinath, by afternoon. Muktinath is one of the most popular pilgrimage sites of Nepal. When you reach there, don’t forget to visit the 108 water spouts.
Day 16 - Muktinath to Jomsom via Kagbeni
Jomsom Altitude: 2,720 m / 8,924 ft
Trek Distance: 20 km
Trek Duration: 7–8 hours
Elevation Loss: 1,040 m / 3,412 ft
After visiting the sacred place of Muktinath, today's journey will take you down through the dry landscape of lower Mustang. The route will first take you to a beautiful village, Kagbani, which has narrow streets, old stone houses, and a lot of prayer wheels. The effect of Tibetan culture is strong here, and the visual attractions of Nilagiri and the Dhaulagiri peaks are the added attractions.
From Kagbani, you will walk on the shores of the Kali Gandaki River, which is known for its fossils and strong winds. The trail is windy, but relatively flat and visible.
At the end of noon, you will arrive in Jomsom, the headquarters of the Mustang district. The city has an airport, basic features, and a popular rest point for hikers.
Day 17 - Drive from Jomom to Pokhara (822 m; 7–9 hours; 155 km)
Pokhara Altitude: 822 m / 2,697 ft
Drive Distance: 150 km
Drive Duration: 6–7 hours
Elevation Loss: 1,898 m / 6,227 ft
After finishing your wonderful trek, today you will travel to Pokhara with a jeep or bus, passing through the deepest gorge in the world, Kali Gandaki. The scenic drive winds through beautiful valleys, rivers, traditional villages, and terraced fields, giving you a final taste of the rural Himalaya.
When you get down from altitude, the dry, robust Mustang landscape gradually becomes green hills and forests. The trip takes about 7-9 hours to reach Pokhara, a very popular city in Nepal. Once you are in Pokhara, a decent hotel will be arranged for you where you can find a warm bath, good food, and relax. If you have enough time left, ask your guide to take you to the Fewa Lake.

Find your best time to trek the Annapurna Circuit with Lake Tilicho
The best time to trek to the Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake is in the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) - when the weather conditions are the most stable, the sky is clear, and the mountain scenes are at their best.
Here’s each season explained in detail:
Spring (March to May) - Peak Trekking Season
Spring brings dry conditions and mild temperatures along the trek, which makes trekking here a lot easier. The scenes are very attractive, as the Rhododendron and alpine flowers bloom all along the trail.
Temperature:
Lower areas temperature: 15-25 ° C a day
Higher areas temperature: (Manang, Thorong La): 0-10 ° C
Why choose Spring?
Crystal clear Mountain views, vibrant landscape, and a pleasant daytime with mild temperatures make it an ideal time for a high-altitude tour like Tilicho Lake and Thorong La Pass.
Autumn (September to November) - the most popular season
After the monsoon, the skies are stable and the air is cold. Fields of golden rice, clean trails, and snow-covered peaks make autumn a favorite time to trek to the Annapurna Circuit.
Lower altitude Temperature: 10-20 ° C
Higher altitude Temperature: -5-10 ° C
Why is autumn chosen?
Autumn is the most preferred season for trekking in Nepal, due to clearer skies, low rainfall, and a festive environment (Dashain and Tihar).
Monsoon/Summer (June to August)
Monsoon brings constant rain, muddy paths, and a risk of landslides. The low visibility on the trail due to humidity makes it even worse. Moreover, there are leeches found in the lower region, which can be disturbing for some trekkers. Due to these factors, monsoon is the least appreciated season for trekking.
Even though monsoon is not so popular trekking season in Nepal, nature lovers (especially greenery admirers and solitude seekers) often seem to be trekking in this season.
Temperature:
Lower altitude temperature: 20–28 °C
Higher altitude temperature: Can drop to -10 °C
Please note: Some segments in the rain shadow of the Annapurna series(like Jomsoom) get less rainfall and could be ideal to visit.
Winter (December to February) - cold and calm
The harsh cold weather is the main challenge in the winter. The heavy snowfall and risk of avalanche/landslide can be troublesome, as it often blocks the way to the Thorong La pass and Tilicho Lake.
However, it's one of the least crowded seasons as most try to avoid this time. Due to this, experienced trekkers wanting an experience of solitude in one of the most beautiful trails still have a visit.
Temperature:
Lower altitude temperature: 5-15 ° C
Higher altitude temperature: Can drop to - 15 ° C at night
Monthly Weather Overview
March–May: Excellent, 0–15°C Dry, blooming flora
June–August: Low, 5–20°C Wet, leeches, landslides
Sept–Nov: Excellent, -5–15°C Clear, colorful, stable
Dec–Feb: Moderate, -15 to 10°C Cold, snowy, quieter

Although the features can be simple, most teahouses offer incredible mountain views, especially in villages such as Manang, Pisang, and Yak Kharka.
During the Tilicho Lake Trek section, accommodation facilities are available in Kharka and Tilicho Base Camp; however, they are more limited and basic due to altitude and remoteness. It is recommended to carry a sleeping bag for sleeping at high altitudes.
Meals During Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake
The food menu during the trek is surprisingly diverse. A normal day begins with Tibetan bread, oatmeal, or pancakes. For lunch and dinner, the unbeatable local food, Dal Bhat (a plate of rice with nutritious lentils, seasonal vegetables, and other side dishes), is a favorite – often with refills. Trekkers can enjoy pasta, Chowmein, Momo (Tibetan dumplings), fried rice, and even apple pie in some bakeries.
Manang, known for having the best food on the Annapurna circuit, offers Yak Cheese, fresh bakery items, and a variety of western dishes. Muktinath also provides delicious Thakali food with local traditional ingredients, which gives a satisfying end to your long trek.
So, if you are wondering how meals are during the Annapurna Trek, the answer is: Very diverse and unsurprisingly delicious, especially when combined with the Himalayan views.
Culture and local life at Annapurna Circuit
One of the most enriching parts of the trekking region is a deep dive into local culture on the Annapurna Circuit. As you pass through different areas, you’ll also travel through the heart of the Himalayas civilization where each village reflects centuries-old traditions, spiritual faith, and ethnical identity.
In the lower regions, you will meet Gurung people, who are known for their warm hospitality. Their rocky houses and strong ties to the British Gurkhas are equally noticeable. When you ascend towards Chame and Pisang, the scene gradually becomes Tibetan-influenced, especially in Manang village, where the Buddhist way of life is deeply rooted in everyday existence.
When we talk about culture, Manang is a gem in itself. Surrounded by stupas, chortens, and prayer walls, it gives a glimpse into ancient Himalaya life. You can often listen to the soft mantras of monks in Buddhist monasteries in Annapurna, where prayer flags flutter against snowy-capped peaks, a rare and beautiful scene.
In places such as Jomsom and Muktinath, the influence of Thakali people is also noticeable, who bring a unique blend of Buddhist and Hindu traditions. In Muktinath, a sacred place for both Hindus and Buddhists, the co-existence of two major religions is a rare and powerful experience in itself. Don't miss the 108 water taps and the eternal flame temple, which are central to traditions in Muktinath.
In short, trekking in the Annapurna Circuit is more than a physical challenge; a real Nepali cultural experience. Every person you meet during your journey, from yak shepherds and tea servers to monks and mountain farmers, adds a layer to your journey, making it an opportunity to have a relationship with the Himalayan life.

Wi-Fi and Mobile Connectivity in the Himalayas
When you are planning to trek through remote Himalayan villages, do not expect to use the internet frequently.
