Brief Itinerary Plan

1: Kathmandu to Lukla Flight (5 People)

Your trip starts at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, where you will be joining with others like you. We bring together your cluster of five passenger maximum and prepare to fly in a well equipped Eurocopter AS350. This particular helicopter is renowned for its operational efficiency, dependability and high altitude stability that will create a smooth ride.

En-route helicopter view of the Kathmandu valley is wonderful when the helicopter takes off to travel towards the next destination. Below, you are going to see terraced fields in bright colors and typical villages, the city, and only the city as you go higher up the mountains. Langtang, Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, and Gaurishankar Himalayas all are in vision.

As you start ascending the viewpoint changes drastically with the beautiful Langtang Range coming into sight giving an indication of what’s to come in the days to come.

And within 45 minutes of your flight, you reach Lukla Airport (Tenzing-Hillary Airport) which is arguably one of the world’s toughest airports for landing. At an altitude of 2,840m it is a small town nestled in the Himalayan foothills and is your starting point for the Everest region.

A little time to stretch your legs now and have a look at the Nepalese town of Lukla itself where you will refuel for 10 minutes only. Take some pictures of the area and get ready for the next destination.

2: Lukla to Kalapathar (2 People)

As said , after refueling you will continue with your ride. Blame it on the altitude constraints and weight limitations as only two passengers can be flown via one helicopter to Kalapathar.

Once airborne, get ready for a rough ride and with this in mind the helicopter continues to ascend into the Khumbu region. Whilst trekking, as you move from one valley to another or the steep climbs from one mountain to another, you are rewarded with a view of the Thamserku and Kwangde Himal range.

Some of the most amazing surreal views of this beautiful landscape, and the adrenaline rush of flying over it cannot be explained.

It takes about 25 minutes for the flight, and you will soon be over Kalapathar- famous for providing stunning views of Mount Everest.

3: Kalapathar Landing

When you locate yourself within the Kalapathar dropping point, you will practically be at almost 5,644 meters or 18,517 feet above the sea level. It is also famous for offering the closest and wonderful views of Mount Everest to those interested.

In particular, helicopters allow you to stand on a steep slope with your feet and contemplate the stunning view. You will first experience the enormity of the mountain by the name Everest accompanied by other equally large mountains like Nuptse and Pumori. It is surprising to be this close to the tallest mountain in the entire world.

In each stop, you will only have 10 to 15 minutes to get out of the ride, take photographs, and breathe fresh mountain air. Take a deep breath of fresh air and try not to look around. This is a moment worth living for over and over again.

Kalapatthar

4:Everest Base Camp Flyover

Following this, the helicopter will hover for an aerial view of the camp at the base of Mount Everest.

From this vantage point you will be able to observe this famous scene of the climbers as they warm up. Colorful tents huddled together on the glacier beneath mimic the atmosphere against the white screen of the Khumbu Glacier.

The flyover is short, only a few minutes long, yet it provides stunning shots of the camp and awesome geography that it occupies.

Then you will glimpse the Khumbu Icefall with crevasses and seracs that cannot leave any indifferent, this is the force of nature.

5:Flight to Everest View Hotel

Later on, the breathtaking helipad flyover will follow up to the Everest View Hotel. The famous hotel has attracted not only the wealthy as it boasts of the beautiful view of Mount Everest and other mountains.

This attracts photographers who ensure their cameras are always ready during the 25 minute flying time to the hotel. The helicopter tours fly over several picturesque sherpa villages, verdant valleys, and the high altitude landscapes that have totally different look every time you look at them.

When you get down to the Everest View Hotel you will be given 1 hour to take your breakfast. The food includes typical Nepali food and international foods which will give you strength after the day’s exercise.

Imagining yourself eating with a view of the giant scenery around you, this is the sort of experience that will make the moments to cherish. Don’t forget to go outside to get more incredible shots from the terrace!

6: Return to Lukla

After such a meal, it is high time to go back. The helicopter will be picked from the Everest View Hotel, you will be provided with 25 minutes to look at the scenic views before boarding the helicopter to be taken back to Lukla.

It is advised to look out for something special as this includes a shape pyramid like structure of Ama Dablam and beautiful valley of Khumbu with its small Sherpa ethnic group villages and old monasteries. Oh it is such a beautiful way to end any high altitude experience.

7:Lukla to Kathmandu Flight

Last, there will be the helicopter to make your flight back to Kathmandu. Final view from the flight This is a 45 minute flight that affords one a last opportunity to view the staggering scenes of the Himalayas before touching down in the city.

When you hover above the valleys and the villages, try to think about your adventure all the way to Everest. You will have your last drop off at Tribhuvan International Airport and take home with you memories of a loving adventure and stunning views to live Texas Instruments, 2004.

The pilot has the final authority regarding takeoff, landing, route, flight continuation, and passenger boarding or disembarkation. Passengers must follow all instructions from the pilot and ground crew without exception.

Safety First: Never approach, board, or leave a helicopter without permission from the pilot or authorized ground crew. Never approach the tail rotor. Your safety always takes priority over the itinerary, schedule, photographs, or convenience.

Group Size

  • Kathmandu to Lukla

The capacity for passenger load on the helicopter is about 5 passengers per a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla and therefore it’s then ideal for group travelers who want to share the ride on this wonderful experience.

  • Lukla to Kalapathar

Again, because of high altitude weight penalties, only 2 passengers can proceed further from Lukla to Kalapathar . This helps to achieve comfort and safety while climbing to 5,545 meters (18,192) above the sea level.

Logistics and Safety

Helicopter Type

Now let’s begin with the aircrafts. You will be using a Eurocopter AS 350 or Airbus H125 during the entire process. These helicopters are very appropriate given the difficult geographical formations of the region which is the Himalayas. They’re dependable, cozy, and built strictly for operations in the higher-altitude regions and that lets you take a dose of the view while just enjoying the flight.

Safety Measures

Security is a must in this particular tour. You will also be in the hands of experienced pilots who have flown in and around the mountains many times. This prepares them for the specific demands of flying in high altitude hence ensuring that when you are flying, you have every reason to smile.

Moreover, the helicopters are well maintained in order to provide their best service to customers/clients. It is also reassuring to learn that there is oxygen available in addition to the oxygen generating system. You can easily obtain oxygen when the signs of altitude begin to take a toll on one’s health for easier breathing.

Weather Considerations

Weather in the Everest region is quite changeable sometimes. That means that depending on the conditions, your flight schedule may be changed. This means that whatever weather conditions you may employ such as fog, rain or even strong winds will be able to affect visibility and safety hence wise to be flexible with your plans. You’ll only find out from your tour operator what is happening because they will be heavily checking the weather.

Health and Preparation

But sit back and think about health before you proceed. If you have any kind of sickness or illness that concerns your breathing or your heart, it is advisable that you consult your doctor before going on the trip. As for the helicopter ride no physical ability is required, however, it would be good to keep a good health.

Lastly, it’s important to keep hydrated and get enough sleep before you go on your adventure trip. This is something I know we can all understand well since it is the little things that can count when you are out exploring.

Permits and Regulations

So, now let us turn our attention to permits. The beautiful thing is that the tour package covers all permits that give you an authority to land at Kalapathar, and Everest Base Camp. We handle all these aspects so that you only have to sit with your map to follow the journey without the stress of documents.

Lastly, I’d like to remind you that you should be environmentally friendly out there. The Himalayas are so beautiful; it is now our duty to ensure that they remain that beautiful. Plan your trip with eco-friendly practices, accordingly, appreciate cultural heritage and donate nothing to the environment that is better left undisturbed for other travelers.

Weather Considerations For the Trip

As you prepare yourself for your Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour, one factor that’s important is the weather. In the Himalayas it is always unpredictable when it comes to weather and often it is possible to have different sorts of it within the shortest time.

If you are likely to arrive in the spring season between March and May then brace yourself because these are the best weather conditions you’ll find; the sky is remarkably clear and the temperatures are perfect to give you that perfect view of the mountains. There is another favorable month from September up to November, it is a cool period and good light prevails.

However, if you’re hoping for clear views, avoid winter because it is quite chilly in those months and often there will be heavy snow – which is a no-no if you want to fly. June to August also poses challenges as the monsoon arrives and there could be constant rain and the skies obscure the views of all those beautiful mountains.

So it’s always best to remain quite fluid regarding your travel plans and constantly monitor the weather in the days leading up to your tour. In this way, you will be sure to optimize the chances for a fascinating view of the Himalayas.

Helicopter Model We use for Everest Base Camp Helicopter tour:

Our Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour is operated using high-performance Airbus H125 (AS350 B3e) helicopters, specially suited for high-altitude Himalayan operations. These helicopters are commonly used for Everest sightseeing flights, mountain rescue and emergency evacuation operations in Nepal. The aircraft normally accommodates up to five passengers plus one pilot; however, passenger capacity and landing capability at high altitude are subject to aircraft performance, passenger weight, fuel load, weather and pilot/aviation safety requirements.

Packing List for the Everest Helicopter Tour | From clothing to Miscellaneous

  1. Base Layers: Base your thermal wear on good moisture control using the right material for your upper and lower body wear. You wish to remain a little wet and shivering up high.
  2. Insulating Layers: Close knit fleece or down jackets will be your most valued companion up there anytime when the cold sets in.
  3. Outer Layer: A waterproof and windproof jacket should also form part of any attire for the race. Occasionally the weather is really bad, and one would not wish to be in the open caught in that bad weather.
  4. Warm Hat and Gloves: I assure you that your hands and feet would be thanking you for the warmth it is going to provide.
  5. Scarf or Buff: An ideal accessory for a warm neck and face area.
  6. Sunscreen: All ahead is base tan and bikini and don’t forget the high SPF sunscreen! I’m sure heaven will be on a high altitude and you will prefer not to be burnt by the sunlight.
  7. Lip Balm: Bring a lip balm that has a moisturizer component on it and sunscreen to protect your lips from the altitude.

  13. Power Bank: A portable charger is one of the most useful things anyone can have because it charges a device's battery.
  14. Cash: Just a small amount of money-Nepali rupees for tips or small shopping is never a bad idea to have.

Health and Safety Precautions To Consider

Altitude Awareness

Sure, altitude sickness doesn’t only happen when you are hiking but also when you are traveling by helicopter, one might experience the usual signs such as headaches, nausea or dizziness. To this, make sure to drink plenty of water and do not shy away informing your pilot if you start struggling with breathing; he/she may carry some extra oxygen if required.

Stay Hydrated

One actually does not realize that he is dehydrated when at high altitudes. Ensure that you take lots of water during the tour, as it minimizes the risk associated with altitude sickness.

Warm Clothing

Landing at Kalapathar it is very cold most of the time therefore layering is strongly advised. Take warm clothes so that when you are admiring those views, you are most comfortable.

Emergency Preparedness

Pay particular attention to the pilot’s words while he or she is briefing all the passengers with the safety measures to be taken in case of emergency.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is a requirement and having one that addresses issues to do with high altitude and emergencies is even better. This too will attract costs high beyond common costs of medical emergencies if not well planned.

Health Precautions

Take into consideration simple things such as colds and fatigue. It’s a good idea to pack some common medications:

  1. Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen: For headaches or when a person feels generally uncomfortable.
  2. Antihistamines: Useful at any form of skin allergy or stomach upset.
  3. Diamox (Acetazolamide): Used in treatment of altitude sickness; consult your physician before using this.

Avoid Alcohol and Smoking

Any of them can aggravate altitude sickness and commonly leads to dehydration. However, it is advisable to avoid them prior to engaging in a tour, and while undergoing your tour.
