Everest base camp trek in September Itinerary:

Day 01: Flight to Lukla (2,860 meters), 30 minutes Trek to Phakding (2,610 meters) 2-3 hours

We’ll get the trip to Everest Base Camp started with a short flight to Lukla. Half an hour flight or so from Kathmandu is how we'll reach the portal of Base Camp. Until we reach the airstrip, you can have fun taking the aerial view of pristine snow peaks and awe-inspiring landscapes.

Upon reaching the town, we’ll have brunch, then set out on a trek to Phakding. The journey starts with an easy climb on the hillside of Dudh Koshi River. After a few ups and downs on a worn path lower the valley, we’ll get to Phakding. Overnight stay in a lodge.

Day 02: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440 meters) 4-5 hours

After a cozy morning and a warm meal at Phakding, we'll once again set off for the trail. But this time, it gains an elevation of 585 meters to meet Namche. The climb is easy in the start with a little setback, but after getting some altitude, the trek gets difficult.

Walking above and around Dudh Koshi Valley wrapped by rhododendron forest, we’ll come to Monjo. Coming out far from the village, we’ll enter Sagarmatha National Park. Only those with a permit card are allowed to access the park.

For multiple times, we’ll have to walk over a suspension bridge to reach the far side of a village known as Jorsale. It’s the last and small settlement on the west bank of Dudh Koshi River. From here, the trek gets relatively hard with a steep climb continuously for almost 2-3 hours.

Day 03: Acclimatization at Namche Bazaar

namche way to everest base camp

Trek after Namche becomes tough due to gradual oxygen decrease in the air. So we’ll take time off from the hike this day and acclimatize fully. We’ll ease up, have breakfast, and then hit the trail moving to the nearest viewpoint.

We’ll have an uphill walk for almost two or two and a half hours on a dusty track to reach Everest View Hotel. Along the way, we’ll pass Khunde Village full of typical Sherpa houses with green-rooftop.

Mainly, the exquisite view of Mt. Everest from Syangboche is breathtaking. From the ridge, you can watch spectacular Khumjung Valley that looks like some sort of fantasy. Finally, after spending a wonderful time at the hotel, we’ll climb down the route alongside magnificent Ama Dablam.

Day 04: Trek to Tengboche (3,867 meters) 6-7 hours

Brace yourself for another exciting day of Everest Base Camp Trek in September. The trek to Tengboche is not just long but frantic as well, with continuous upward walking. Because it’s blazing hot during the day in September, we’ll leave the village early and ascend the trail past mani stone walls.

Our trail walks straight up to the Mongla Pass, leaving us exhausting and at a slower pace. After scrambling the ground level, we’ll climb down the hill to Dudh Koshi River and cross an old wooden bridge.

After lazing at a village on the way and having a meal, we’ll continue hiking on a rocky path. Following 6-7 hours of walk, depending on the speed, we’ll finally arrive at Tengboche. With that, we’ll end the day and rest at a teahouse.

Day 05: Trek to Dingboche (4,410 meters) 6-7 hours

After offering prayers at the Tengboche monastery, we’ll traverse the trail downhill until crossing the river. Coming to the other side of the trail, we’ll walk uphill along the edge of the river valley. All-day long, we’ll ascend the rugged trail covered in dirt and stone.

Besides that, there are a couple of Chortens along with familial teahouses to stop by. Moving forward, we scramble the stony trail, which causes most trekkers to fall sick because of altitude sickness. After entering Chukhung Valley, the route follows a steep climb up to Dingboche. Overnight stay at a lodge.

Day 06: Acclimatization at Dingboche

Trek above Dingboche often causes people to suffer from headaches and shortness of breath. Therefore, we’ll take a day off from the trek today and adapt to the changing temperature. In short, we will explore Chukhung village or trek to Nangkartshang in the north of Dingboche; there are plenty of spots to travel in and out of the town.

Day 07: Trek to Lobuche (4,950 meters) 5-6 hours

After breakfast, we’ll start our journey to Lobuche by ascending the side of the hill. The more elevation we gain, the more narrow the trail becomes while approaching Dusa. Ahead on the trail, we’ll come across many small hamlets, including Dughla. Furthermore, Clambering from the side of the hill high above Chukhung valley, we’ll come across a few stupas. Following the vast plain land, we’ll arrive at Lobuche and call it a day.

Day 08: Trek to Gorakshep (5,164 meters), 2-3 hours Hike to Everest Base Camp (5,364 meters) 1.5-2.5 hours

Early morning, we’ll scale the trail to Gorak Shep on a steep trail with rocks and boulders. The trek takes anywhere from 2 to 3 hours based on how fast you can walk. In short, Gorakshep is a small settlement resting on a frozen lakebed covered with sand.

After eating breakfast, we’ll slowly walk the jagged trail heading towards Everest Base Camp. On climbing further, we’ll reach the top of Khumbu Glacier, which offers a spectacular view of Khumbu Icefall.

After reaching the camp, you can gaze at the shimmering Mt.Everest and glacial lakes. A short time later, we’ll retrace the step back to Gorakshep. In addition, the village is also where we’ll spend the night.

Day 09: Trek to Kala Patthar (5,644 meters), 1-2 hours Hike to Pheriche (4,371 meters) 5-6 hours

We’ll get up early today and do a long climb to Kala Patthar. Ascending the steep mountain slock over rocks, we’ll get to the top of the viewpoint. After watching the astounding view from atop, we’ll return to the trail inclining downhill to Pheriche.

Day 10: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,441 meters) 6-7 hours

With a hearty meal at the lodge in Pheriche, we’ll gently walk the trail sloping downward. During the Everest Base Camp in September, we’ll have plenty of trekkers accompanying us along the way. Walking through the forests and crossing numerous suspension bridges over Dudh Koshi River, we’ll arrive at Namche. Furthermore, you can use the spare time to explore villages or take a rest at the lodge.

Day 11: Trek to Lukla (2,860 meters) 5-6 hours

Kathmandu to Lukla Helicopter | Lukla to Kathmandu

After having breakfast in Namche alongside scenic view, we’ll slowly climb down the steep hill. The alley might look familiar as we come to Monjo, walk past Benkar, and then Phakding to reach Lukla. Walking the trail, we’ll cross several suspension bridges above Dudh Koshi and also pass a bunch of Sherpa villages. Finally, we’ll spend the night at a lodge in Lukla.

Day 12: Flight to Kathmandu, 40 minutes

We’ll end the trek as grand as it kicked off by taking a flight back to Kathmandu. The scenery couldn’t be more charming from the aircraft with a series of mountains, delightful landscapes, and luscious forests.

We’ll also get a high angle shot of Mt. Everest and the valley beneath before landing at Tribhuvan Airport. From there, our officials will drive you to the hotel where you can relax for the rest of the day.

During the whole trek, you will be accommodating in the available Teahouses. If you love camping, you can stay in camps with the groups. During the clear nights, you can go camping while staring at the sky full of stars.

The Tea Houses have small rooms. They provide basic lodging experience during your trek. In the mountains, do not expect high standard rooms.
